Abusing Choice

I was watching the Tyra show this morning. Her new "WTF" (Web Tyra Show Feedback-not "What The F***") segment was on and a black man was defending his dating choice of dating only white women. He says they give fewer attitudes and are easier to deal with if a man doesn't come home at night. A white woman was offended by this and told him that-white, black, or whatever you are-a woman is a woman and a person should date not because of color, but because of personality, etc. He fought back saying that he was just using the free choice that he is given by living in America (First Amendment ring a bell anyone?).

So is he right? Because you live in America you can choose who you date because some types of people are fool proof?

I guess technically he is right, but morally he is wrong.

It comes down to if you have a heart or not. Abuse your rights to the point where you're stretching them thin as paper or use your rights to live an honest life? Is that why Americans are free?-to be able to make wrong choices and not face consequences? I doubt it.

If you don't have anything nice to say...don't say it at all!

When you think of the words, "First Amendment" what do you think of? I know. "Oh crap! Something about the Constitution! How am I supposed to remember that from like 10 years ago!?" Yup. Me too. That's the exact thought that ran through my mind when my media teacher asked me to write a paper on the relationship between media and the First Amendment.

It turns out that the First Amendment is about free speech and the freedom to practice one's religious culture. Already I bet you're linking the First and Fifth Amendments together. Good job. Both the First and Fifth Amendments are indeed related. I'm sure you've watched either "COPS" or one of the "CSI" shows that always show criminals repeating, "I plead the 5th!" or "I want to speak with a lawyer!" As if they are not guilty enough, they have to put the butter on the bagel and try to prove themselves innocent. Amendment number 5 protects you from self-incrimination. Awesome! It’s really comforting to know that I have a right to life.
I understand how lucky Americans are. We can walk down the streets and shout whatever we like, even if it is offensive. Now let me ask you something... What's better?--Living in a regime, like Iran's, where you are basically a robot… with a chance of being killed… walking to the local food store… for some ingredients for dinner -or- living in America, the land of the free, where you can do anything you like… like walk outside naked, scream profanities, pick your nose and wipe it on the person in the elevator next to you? Yea... I know what you’re thinking... America rocks! I love New York! I wear my iPod 24/7... Even in the shower! Hmm. I knew it.

Freeze for just a second. Do you ever feel out of the loop? Do you feel like something more important is going on just outside your door, but you don't want to go in and check your neighbor’s house because they will call the cops?--oh wait! Your First and Fifth Amendments got your back there! =)--but really. You are missing out on a LOT of things.

Good morning. This is your half way through your life wake up call. Just reminding you that your angelic government is holding out on you. So the next time they steal your money through taxes, agenda set your favorite news channel, radio station, and news paper...remember...it was not by accident.

As John McCain said, "You won't see it on the news and you won't hear it on the radio because it affects them." He was referring to the digital spectrum and how he agrees that our society needs a growth in technology, but as long as the company is not getting it for free.

Free airways and paid airways are like comparing regular brand chocolate milk with yoo-hoo brand chocolate milk. DUH! Obvious difference. In other words, "you get what you pay for." If you pay for certain programs, you're going to get them and the handpicked-just for your kinds of interests-advertisements to go along with them. If you still have the 19th century’s cable, you're going to get whatever the TV program and government throw in there. Um. Sorry to break it to you but if you don't have cake (aka:$) you get the short end of the stick.

In certain ways, it is sad how a man's hopes and dreams for a country to be free of restraints spiraled down the drain. Instead of freedom of speech and the power of defending our lives, we abuse the power to put others down (especially political candidates...check this out-http://fr.truveo.com/Congressional-candidates-battle-over-TV-ads/id/877727920) *this shows candidates abusing their First Amendment rights to bash each other back and forth until they both look like bad candidates to choose from*

It may be nice to live in a country where anything goes, but it would be nice if some aspects of life were controlled. I guess some people's mammas never told them (when they get into a fight with someone) to keep their mouth shut if they don't have anything nice to say even though they have their First Amendment rights.

First Day of Media Class

First day of Intro. to Media. Sounds easy right? Learn about TV, radio, newspapers, music... Not easy, but fun---if you think about it. Don't need to blog for credit yet, but just thought "blogging" would feel like venting. Five chapters to read and a paper due so time to cut the crap of complaining and get to work...Good luck! PS: Ever think about the first amendment? You might want to start...
